Amid all the doom and gloom at last some good news
Remember how the Govt. was going to sell off all OUR forests? How we signed the petitions? and wrote to our MPs?...
... and how the Govt. back-tracked and referred the matter to an Independent Panel? and we all thought "oh, yes "
well...
...the Independent Panel on Forestry was critical.
They found the government had "greatly undervalued" the benefits woodlands provide for people, nature and the economy. They then called for forest policy to be held in public trust for the entire nation, shielded from political interference with one member saying, the tree cycle is wholly different to the electoral cycle."
So, more than two years after the campaign began, the government has at last, quietly issued an official announcement confirming that they won't try selling off England's forests again.
Just as a note of interest, I received a letter today from my MP, David Crausby, which thanks me for my email and says that he shares my concerns. He goes onto say that he will vote against any such bill which comes before Parliament and a copy of my email has been forwarded to Caroline Spelman who is the Secretary of State for the Envorinment, Food & Rural Affirs to ensure she is "aware of the strength of feeling on this issue". Lastly he says he will be in touch again once he gets a reply from the minister.
Nice to see he (or someone on his behalf) has taken the time to write to me.

It is a very good idea to mail our own particular Mps and let them know we are watching them and checking how they have voted?
it is good news to see the 3 bolton mps all voted yes and out of the 3 manchester mps the two labours ones also voted yes,
but, mp John Leech LDem Manchester, Withington voted NO
All this Follows riggers observations, Why?
Anyone from Withington area who would like to send a email to John leech showing there disgust on him voting to want to sell our forests is very welcome, his name and email are also on the same previous link already given

You can now see how your MP voted in the recent ballot on saving our forests.
Not being well versed in politics, is there any particular why an overwhelming majority of Conservative and Lib Dems voted "NO", whilst the majority of Labour MP's voted "YES"?
This Wednesday there is a crunch vote in Parliament. MPs will vote on a motion demanding a rethink of plans to sell our national forests. If enough of us contact our MPs now, we've got a real chance of winning this vote! So lets make sure MPs are getting thousands of messages with one very clear request: vote to save our forests this Wednesday.
Currently our forests are protected by law. But the government wants to change the law to allow them to start a massive sell-off. National treasures like the Forest of Dean, Sherwood Forest, Grizedale, Alice Holt, Bedgebury and Thetford are under threat.
David Cameron can only change the law and sell all our forests if MPs vote the changes through Parliament.
If enough of us e-mail our MPs, we will be able to persuade them to vote against the sell-off plans.
