Saw a solitary Mallard duckling waddling across the grass near the garden entrance. A Kestrel then zoomed out of the wooded area, shortly after, a Tawny Owl flew out... With the duckling grasped firmly in its talons!
I know that it is uncommon to see a Tawny Owl hunting in the day, is the any reason for this?

Our highlight was watching a pair of Nuthatch around there nest 1 bird doing mud improvements and the other take in a constant supply of insects

I saw a colony at the carrs a couple of weeks ago, is that the area you refer to Phil? Not been here for a few years though so can't say if it is long standing or not.
