Had a good phone call on Wednesday from Barn Owl Bill, being invited to see the Tawny Owl being released back into the wild after being rehabilitated at Barn Owl Bills Owl Sanctuary in Leyland, after it was rescued from a tree were it was tangled and caught up by its left wing by fishing line at Worthington lake

Im really pleased Bill rang me to be witness the release back into the wild, I asked a friend John would he like to come along with me,

Its was a chance not to be missed :) he was a sleep fellow, until he flew off, then he was off like a shot; I think he recognised the place,

A great end to what could have ended up as a sad story

Thanks to the Chorley NHS forum for the info.

Jimmy, there`s nobody knows better than me that if the Owl showed even the slightest movement of life when you first saw it, you would have climbed into that tree yourself to save it. There was nothing any of your group could have done differently because as you say it showed no sign of life when you all observed it. It is, however, a happy end to a very sad situation and we are all grateful for that smile.gif.

Just seen this on youtube and i confirm that this is the bird that we saw on the group walk last week it was pointed out by one of our group that there was a dead owl snagged in the a tree so on taking a closer look it never moved or opened its eyes at all why we was conteplating how it had come to be in that position.

That is why i posted it on forum for our walk

It really saddens and upsets me and will upset the others when they hear of this that if only had showed a sign of life it had moved or even opened its eyes we could have tried to saved it sooner.
But they will be a lot happier that it was rescued none more so than me

But the position it was in we came to the conclusion that that it had sucumbed to the very harsh weather,
It really upsets me to see a bird in that state and if only it had showed some sign of life i would not be writing this .
So my heartfelt thanks go out to the people who rescued the bird Thanks Lads

As like all of our group the welfare of birds comes first i am just really glad the Tawny has another chance

Thanks Jimmy

A news story in todays Wigan Evening Post (21/12) about a Tawny Owl entangled in a tree by discarded fishing line. The opening scenes to the linked YouTube clip are saddening, and dare I say it, a bit disturbing ? The bird was however released and taken into care. Well done those chaps who rescued it..
