RE: Northwich Waxwings

Fantastically close-up views of the Waxwings this morning still feeding in the apple tree on the embankment adjacent to the road bridge next to Northwich station. There were c. 40 birds at one point with some of them literally a few feet away at eye level, totally unconcerned by our presence. Also round the area were Fieldfare and Redwing.

Later a walk around Neumans Flash produced very little - and the water looked to be still completely frozen. The all-day breakfast at Sainsburys was good though biggrin.gif

Sixty Waxwings (probably part of the Tesco/Station flock) in Northwich today at 9.05am in Kingsmead by the A533 'Kingsmead' between the 2 roundabouts on a rowan and in silver birches nearby.

Waxwings in Cheshire

The Northwich Waxwings are now showing down to a few feet on an apple tree right nest to the roadbridge by Northwich Station, which itself is adjacent to Tescos, so they aint moved far ;) Between 60-80 today but very mobile.

Waxwings in Cheshire

25 Waxwings still in Northwich, at LA Fitness, by the Leicester Street roundabout at the top of town. The birds are very mobile commuting to Tescos car park berry trees and probably somewhere else as they go missing for long periods.

Cheers Paul

Yep, I agree as well as those of the Kingfisher too. How close did you get to the Waxwing and can you tell me what camera and lens size you used please? And if possible what ISO, aperture, shutter speed and other settings (Aperture priority, Shutter priority or Manual for example) did you use. Any help appreciated - keep snapping!

Hi Martyn

Thanks

I set the camera to manual and took a reading off the grass - it seems to work better for me than av and compensating.

If you look at my waxwing page, pics 17 to 21 have the exif, if you click on the info button

Regards

Mike
