Canon are of course excellent, but if you're just starting putting a SLR system together for the first then it may be worth giving serious thought to Nikon as well.
It's an age old debate, but in the last couple of years Nikon seem to be winning the fight with wildlife photographers at least. A lot of top names such as Andy Rouse have moved from Canon to Nikon mainly because of the much better performance at low light and high ISO.
I'm sure Canon will come back in a year or so with a new model. That's how it's always been...Canon, then Nikon, then Canon... You really wont't go far wrong with either really and the Nikon/Canon rivalry means the technology is constantly getting better which can only be good for users of both brands.

That's what I'm thinking, the offers all seem a bit too good to be true and that there must be a catch somewhere along the way. There is an offer on there from the USA for the 7D with 2 canon EF-S lenses (plus other accessories) for around £1,600. The seller has 99.9% positive feedback, but it still all sounds a bit too good!?
The reason I'm going for the canon 7D is the HD video. I need to put a portfolio of short wildlife documentaries together over the next couple of years for university, in order to be accepted on to a masters degree in 'Wildlife documentary production'. The canon vs nikon debate has haunted me over the past few months though!!!

Dont forget that anything imported into the uk from outside the EU and costing over £80 in value will attract the attention of HM customs and you'll end up paying 17.5% VAT plus delivery also attracts VAT.
Well thats what happened to me last time I ordered something from outside the EU.
Whats the big thing with Canon vs Nikon. I used to have a canon eos film camera and found it really good - I've never been a 'true' photographer type mind you. Is it a bit like being a swarovski or leica/zeiss/Nikon person

I've just had a look on ebay at this offer and I would be tempted to give it a wide berth. The price including 6 lenses works out at just over £1200 which is about the same price as the 7d body only at Jessops. The 500mm lens in this deal is going to be nothing but junk.
For roughly the same price you could pick up a Canon 50d with a Sigma 500mmm and a 300mm which would be a much better bet for anyone serious about starting in wildlife photography.
You could also do the sensible thing and opt for Nikon.

I have seen several offers on ebay advertising the brand new camera with lens kit plus other accessories for a discount price. The offers read something like ''Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera Body +6 Lens Kit NEW''
Has anyone had any experience with these offers or know if they are reliable?

I would watch the ones that say JAPAN,on them as you will have no comeback if anything happens to them.There are loads of offers on Ebay,but I wouldn't risk it,stick with a reputable dealer,and buy the best you can afford,and if you must go to the Darkside(Canon),make sure you read as many reviews as you can before you splash the cash
