All the things Mike has stated could well be the reason, but without a little bit more information it really is impossible to say...
A Kestrel's home range can be anything between 1-5 square miles so perhaps they're just trying a different place.

Hi Lorraine,
Maybe they were young birds that have dispersed now? or perhaps the food source has thinned out a bit so they are hunting just a little farther away.
I am sure there are a few other explainations that more experienced birders may point out.

hi every one could any one shed some light on the kestral,i have watched these lovely birds for several weeks now, but for the last few days no sign or sound there is two most of the time but havent seen them for four five days now.lanie
