Few days in Filey on one of those Haven deals, atrocious eye of the storm weather when we arrived, Saturday was better and Sunday was warm and sunny.
Of note - 1 Long-tailed Duck in Filey Bay - 1 large dark imm Skua (likely Pomarine) - 1 poss Caspian Gull flyby but I had to let it go - quite a few Redwings over all weekend - literally 100s of Pink-footed over - 1 Guillemot with intriguing plumage features that resembled the Northern s subspecies aalge but there is probably so much overlap that would render it near impossible to separate
A 1st w Red-headed Bunting turned up at Flamborough a few miles away but with varying reports of flown off and back again I didnt try for it
1 Red-throated Diver ( plus at least 2 more at Flamborough) 1 Red-necked Grebe - close in
Leucistic Knot among the waders on the clifftop.
Nearby:
C 12 Tree Sparrows Filey Dams C100 Pinkfeet coming to feed in fields near Head Farm, Flamborough 1 Barn Owl (very pale) hunting between the coast and Head Farm
First visit to Filey Brigg - up to high tide we found Meadow Pipit, Eider, Turnstone, Gannet, Dunlin, Knot, Kittiwake, Guillemot and Sandwich Tern, also had Oyster Catchers over accompanied by a single Whimbrel. We also found the bird went to see the immature King Eider - a life time first for me but as a "big brown job" it was slightly disappointing and probably only just about worth getting a good soaking from an incoming wave hitting the rocks - and so to Bempton...
