Thanks to both Nik and John - I think it was Risley I was thinking of. In fact I have just realised that I have a book with a photo of a large hide there.
The book is a publication of the Leigh OS, called Winter Hill to Yellowhammer Lane. I assume the Lane is a road on the Moss to the south of the Leigh OS area, as it is described as one of the lowest points in their area. I have never been able to find it on a map.
Could someone help my fading/faded memory, please?
I will be in Tyldesley this weekend, and might get to take my father out to look at some birds. He is 86, so it needs to be something easy. I know about Pennington Flash, having been there a few times, but I remember seeing a website of a reserve south of the moss which had an easily accessible hide overlooking the moss, or maybe overlooking a reed bed? Urmston comes to mind, but I have searched for this site and cannot find it. Can anyone help me out with it?
Or of course any other suggestions would be welcome.
