RE: owls

Hi Ian
Thanks for the reply. Think i'll just have to keep my eyes and ears open for them. Looking for owls is like looking for a needle in a haystack though biggrin.gif but I guess that is part of the fun in birdwatching, you never know what your gona see. Had some great birding experiences over the years, only problem ive got is travel as I dont have a car. I am off on a birding trip in may though with my dad, going up to Bempton cliffs and Blacktoft Sands. should be good, cant wait

Hi Alex,

though I can't help you personally with your request as I really am not aware of any particular owls in that area (though I've heard Tawny Owls behind Broughton's Fire Station this year, not a million miles away) your best bet will be to check the various threads on the sighting forum for reports from other sites around the county or to use the search function to do the same. This may well of course mean travelling a bit further afield but those birds will have been considered suitable for publication on here as they will be away from breeding sites or very protected if not. This is the main consideration for dealing with species such as owls as I'm sure you'll appreciate we're a rightly cautious bunch about giving away such advice for species all too often heavily hit by egg or chick thiefs.

Im a keen birder and owls have always been one of my favourite birds ever since I was about 12 years old and seen my first tawny owl with 3 young in prestwich clough. That was back in the mid nineties and only seen tawny owls down there a couple of times since, but not for a very long time now. Just wondering if anyone on here has seen any in that area recently. Also if anyone knows of any local places near whitefield where you may find little owls as ive still yet to see one
