8th April evening walk produced 3 Little Ringed Plover (one on Swan Lake and two on the flood over the railway), three singing Blackcaps and Willow Warblers back in.
Pretty horrible sight at Cutacre this evening as I had to watch a man commit multiple offences under the Wildlife and Countryside Act upon a Schedule 1 species. Unfortunately the birder knew exactly where to go and what he was searching for.
Brief visit to the Swan lake area mid afternoon, highlights were 2 Great Crested Grebe, pair of Oystercatcher, 2 pairs of Tufted duck, female Wigeon, several singing Blackcap and Linnet.

16x singing Chiffchaff, 10x singing Skylark, also of note 1x Redshank, 2x Oystercatcher, 2x Little Egret,1x Great Crested Grebe on Swan Lake, 3x Stonechat, 1x Willow Tit and 40x Linnet
Adult Mediterranean Gull with a partial hood on Swan lake c.8.25 this morning before flying over in the direction of the flood horse paddock south of the railway. Also 2 Oystercatcher on Swan lake.
Male Merlin this am obligingly flew over my head. 60 x Pink footed Geese SE, 1 x Treecreeper, 1 x Oystercatcher, 3 x Stonechat, 1 x Teal, and only 1 x Redwing
8 Siskin in the alders along Engine Lane along with a single Redpoll. Water Rail has been very showy on the stream running from Engine Lane towards the rail line for two days, just on the bend of the stream.
Productive walk around Cutacre today. Highlights were 1x Jack Snipe, 3 x Snipe, 6 x Grey Partridge, 1 x Green Sandpiper, 8 x Stonechat, 1 x Teal, 14 x Tufted Duck, 101 x Redwing.
Afternoon wander down Engine Lane produced 2 Willow Tit, 23 Siskin, 4 Bullfinch, lots of Redwing, 2 Buzzards. A first for me on site was a Red Kite drifting east.
1 x Green Sandpiper, 1 x female Garganey, 1 x Swallow, 2 x Chiffchaff, 1 x male Stonechat, 1 x Redpoll within a flock of 30 Goldfinch, 55 x Gadwall, 1 x Water Rail (heard) and 5 x Mute Swan on Swan Lake
Good walk round Cutacre today. Highlights were 2 x Nuthatch, 1 x Treecreeper, 33 x Swallow, 6 x House Martin, 9 x Swift, 5 x Buzzard, 1 x female Peregrine, 8 x Chiffchaff, 13 x Whitethroat, 1 x Reed Warbler, 3 x Raven, 2 x Snipe, 1 x Little Grebe, 2 x Lapwing and 51 x Gadwall
30 Gadwall on Swan Lake with 2 x Little Grebe, also 2 x Grey Partridge, 1 x Teal, 1 x Lapwing, 20 x Pied Wagtail in horse field by lake and large flocks of Goldfinch approx 65 birds feeding on the teasel
This afternoon highlights, 2 x Little Grebe on Swan Lake, 5 x Kestrel, 1 x Sand Martin, 1 x Willow Tit, 27 x Gadwall inc 9 recently fledged, 2 x Linnet and 1 x Little Egret
At least 18 Gadwall on Swan lake early afternoon including a brood of 7 half grown young. Pair of Oystercatcher also here, single Siskin flew over heading low West and a Lesser Whitethroat giving short bursts of song along the railway line.
This mornings highlights were 1 x Grasshopper Warbler, 11 x singing Sedge Warbler, 19 x Whitethroat, 5 x Swallow, 1 x House Martin, 1 x Little Egret and Lapwing with fledglings
Good numbers of Sedge Warbler in this morning, along with Reed and a Garden Warbler in the same habitat as last spring. Grasshopper Warbler, Blackcap and Whitethroat singing constantly, and a single female Wheatear on the concrete blocks. Two groups of two Common Tern flew over towards Walkden. Common Sandpiper on Swan Lake and good numbers of Swallow were the only hirundine.
A loose kettle of raptors this afternoon over the northern side of Cutacre contained 4 each of Kestrel and Buzzard along with singles of Sparrowhawk and Peregrine. Very quiet otherwise.
No sign of any Garganey this morning in a circuit of the lake. Plenty of gulls on the lake but nothing of interest.
A pair of Willow Tits along Engine Lane ,plenty of singing Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler and Blackcap.
The pair of Garganey again on Swan Lake,spending most of their time in juncus on south side of lake.
A Yellowhammer and 6 singing Chiffchaff on way in from Atherton side.
