Hi Phil, the first group circled round over Glastonbury Drive / A523 / Poynton Pool then eventually flew West towards Bramhall, the 2nd group straight over NW towards Stockport.
Weds 3rd Jan Stopped off at Glastonbury Drive opposite Poynton Pool.
Fairly large flock of mixed small birds moving around the trees and bushes near the sheep field. They all hung around the area for approx 5 minutes then moved on. - c35-40 Goldfinch - 2 Chaffinch (m+f) - 1 Siskin (f) - c10+ Long-tailed Tit - 6 Blue Tit - 4 Great Tit - 2 Coal Tit - 2 Nuthatch - 2 Treecreeper
Thurs 5th Jan. Stopped off for break on way back from Buxton.
Lake side. - Water Rail heard squealing in reeds south end - 1 Common Gull - 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull - 1 Great Crested Grebe - 1 Mandarin Drake - 1 pr Tufted Duck - 2 Redwings over - 1 Nuthatch - 1 Treecreeper (Both latter birds part of a small Tit flock with a few Blue Tits, a Great Tit and a couple of Goldfinch)
Glastonbury Drive opposite the lake. - 1 Little Egret in sheep field - 1 Common Snipe over - 1 Goldcrest - 1 Redwing - 2 Treecreeper together
Parked up on a break on Glastonbury Drive opposite Poynton Lake. I was watching a few Swift and House Martin whizzing around when I suddenly heard a bird calling from a tree in the overgrown area at the side of the van. I knew what it was straight away and got onto it briefly low down in the tree before a Blackbird inadvertently spooked it and it made its way round the other side.
- Spotted Flycatcher I was quite shocked really because theres hardly been any reported locally this year.
Afternoon break by the field on Glastonbury Drive opposite Poynton Lake. - 1 pr Stock Dove dropped in - 1 (palish?) Greylag with Canada Geese - 1 singing Chiffchaff - 1 singing Blackcap - 1 Raven high over - 1 Grey Heron over
Presumably Poynton Pool is the small lake just off the main road A523 opposite Glastonbury Drive. I park up on Glastonbury Dr many a time for a break and had a couple of lakeside walks.
Yesterday - in sheep field at side of the road. - c25 Redwing, 2 near the van - 1 Little Egret dropped in for 10 mins - c10 Goldfinches - 5 Rook - 1 Grey Wagtail - 1 Coal Tit - 1 Common Buzzard

Had half an hour visit this morning,a pair of Goosander and usual Wildfowl, then a Swallow appeared flying quite low and headed off in the direction of the Garden Centre,a first sighting this year for me.It was also seen by another birder who arrived by bike so it was nice to have it confirmed as quite an early sighting for me.He also saw some Sandmartins but I missed them due to looking at the Goosanders.
Lunchtime today at Poynton Pool - not the best shot, but since I had only gone for a stroll and a "mess about" with an old lens, I was hardly prepared - isnt that always the way when there is something out of the interest on your local pool!
No autofocus, no image stabilisation.............................it was a miracle I actually got a shot where you can tell its a bird never mind see what it is
Nikon D7100 with Tokina rmc 400mm f/5.6 manual focus lens
The second Goldeneye record of the year, this time an imm drake. Also female Pochard (another site rarity) and the lingering Little Grebe still present
Highlights from the last few days:- two Wigeon, two Shoveler, c50 Pink-footed Geese, 7 Golden Plovers, Little Grebe, Peregrine & the 500+ Canada flock again
