Tom I saw one at Mere about a month ago. Its a five minute hop for a red kite so likely to be true. The Rostherne log book also recorded one about a month ago as well.
A friend of mine (non-birder - oooh, stringy! ) saw what he is adamant was a Red Kite hanging about over the M60 just past the bridge over the ship canal before the M62 junction on the west side of the motorway. I've seen Buzzards whilst driving over the bridge before, but he swears it was fork tailed and not a Buzzard. I'd usually just ignore him, only he does have some reliability in that he grew up in mid-Wales in Rhayader only a few miles from Gigrin Farm!
