Lots of juvenile water birds around the reservoir this morning, none of them from breeding here.
15 Grey Herons, mostly juveniles from Entwistle.
40+ Black-headed Gulls with lots of juveniles, presumably from Belmont.
Common Terns included 2 juveniles. I heard some Terns flying in as I mooched around Ousel Nest Meadow. At the reservoir there were some birds flying around, some on buoys (where I saw the young ones), and some on the shoreline with the Gulls. I got to eleven in total, the same as the flock a few days ago. Nearest breeding birds that I know of are at Doffcocker.

Other birds included :-
3 Great Crested Grebes, including one on the nest
19 Canada Geese + the hybrid goose
30+ Mallards
Nesting Swallows at Grange Farm & the farm up the access road
Pair of Garden Warblers by the yatch club, possibly with young. I had a cracking view of a singing bird at the top of a tree when a second bird came out of the vegetation a few feet from the footpath. This second bird made me feel very unwelcome as it was obviously trying to divert me away from the area. The constant singing of both birds made my day.

I did not see any Moorhens, not helped by a bloke taking his young son fishing in the conservation area. All that area around the reservoir but the plonker had to go in there.

Great Crested Grebe on the new nest. I only saw one other but I did not check the bay by the yatch club where another pair normally frequent.

14 Grey Herons, 13 of them away from the footpaths near Grange Farm
32 Canada Geese
20+ Mallards
3 Black-headed Gulls
11 Common Terns. All flying around together before one dropped onto a buoy. The other 10 continued flying around, very noisily, for about 5 minutes before heading off.
6 Swifts
2 House Martins
2 Swallows

9.45am to 11.30am. Managed to beat the rain but a strongish wind kept a lot of the smaller birds hidden & quiet.

4 Grey Herons, two together when I got there, and a couple flying in from Entwistle direction.

10.10am to 11.25am and a short late afternoon visit.

7 Great Crested Grebes. There were no Grebes on the nest this morning, and this afternoon a Moorhen was exploring the nest. The pair of Grebes watched from a distance, moving nearer when the Moorhen moved off, and then swam out into the middle of the reservoir, before flying towards other Grebes at the bottom end of the reservoir. It looks as though the nest has been abandoned.
3 Grey Herons
8 Canada Geese + the 5 goslings
20+ Mallards
Pair of Tufted Ducks
4 Moorhens
1 Common Sandpiper
12 Black-headed Gulls

Early visit this morning to check if the Pinkfoot was still there. No sign of it with the Canada Geese, so the good news is it must have been healthy and not an injured one dropping in. Great Crested Grebes up to nine, everything else as normal.

At 8.20am I saw 8 Grey Herons flying up from Bradshaw Lodges. A few flew over Jumbles Reservoir which I presumed to be heading for Entwistle. However, they headed back after about 15 minutes. Later on at Entwistle I only saw about a dozen birds in the heronry. Many years ago they nested in this area so in the next few days I will be checking this out.

A "normal" Cormorant was at the sailing club on my morning visit. Early afternoon it had been replaced by a "white-headed" one.
