I have the Nikon ED50, and agree - it's great. I admit, that when I bought it 12 months ago, it was all cheaper due to the pound.euro etc. I got it with the Zoom, and bought the 20x EP yesterday. Got them all from InFocus Martin Mere. Dony read this link John - they are selling the 27x for £229

i got a good deal as the tripod etc was £220,and i got that for £100,so thats ok

i daupt you can get a decent scope and eyepeice for £250,id save a little bit longer and get something that will last.ive had several cheaper scopes and they have always been a dissapointment in the feild,ive just got a nikon ed50 with 27 wide angle lens and for a little scope its a cracker,but the lens cost £270 and the scope £330,then a decent stay on case and tripod,and hide clamp,and even for a cheaper end scope,it cost me £700,So i think for £250 you'l be a bit limited
Which of the two eyepieces would you recommend Dean??

I would go for the HR eyepieces on that scope. When i got mine the difference between the cheap one (IS?) and HR was significant. But the difference between the HR and HDF wasn't that great. Don't take my word though, best to try em out first.
I agree with Ian. Opticron stuff is fine and good value but the top notch stuff will blow them away on a rainy nov day at penny

On a nice bright sunny day, most optics look great but having personally looked through the vast majority of optics, there is still a wide margin between the middle and top end products. On a typically crappy UK day though, that top end gear really gets into it's stride. That said, are the very best worth their massive price tag? For me it comes down to how often you use them and how important your persuit is to you. I use my optics every day and their worth to me is immeasurable in the joy they bring. My first top end bins, a pair of Zeiss, cost me the fortune of £500, a lot of money back in the 80's. I bought them on credit but never, ever regreted it.
Back to Opticron though, I haven't enough personal experience with that particular model to comment (only looked quite briefly through a couple) but they generally make fine optics indeed and I doubt you'll go wrong. Can they compete with Swaro, Leica etc? Not in my view but they cost a fraction of the price!
I have the older 60mm classic opticron which i use with HR eyepieces. It's excellent for the money. The HDF eyepieces are more expensive but i found little difference in image quality to the HRs on my scope. You can't really go far wrong with opticron stuff in my opinion.
A birder over at Spurn once suggested there was no point paying for the Leicas/Swarovski's etc of this world now that Opticron had made these. Not sure I'd go thatfar but he obviously like it.
I've had a fair bitof Opticron stuff and always found it pretty good quality for what you pay for it.
