At least two Grasshopper Warbler on separate territories calling away, last night, still no sighting though.

Late (very) posting for Saturday 23rd July at approx 6pm - 3 Crossbills flew over moor to plantation above memorial bench and near Crompton Circuit. A Grasshopper warbler was also reeling in vicinity 6 Linnets Blackcap Bullfinch - 2 Meadow Pipit -3 Skylark -1
Called up today at approximately 10:30. No sign of the bird on arrival for quite some time. However as I went specifically just to check this bird I hung around. Thirty minutes or so later it started calling then obligingly sat out in full view again.
You were lucky to get good views of a Grasshopper Warbler! I've heard them reeling at Crompton Moor on single dates in June 2009 and May 2010 but it's not a site I visit very often.
It would be good to confirm a territory by revisiting in a week or more's time. Gropper has been doing very well in GM in recent years and this spring seems to have been even better than usual, although perhaps the weather conditions have made it easier to hear them reeling.

Walk round Crompton Moor this morning threw up good views of a grasshopper warbler. This is the first time I've seen one up there. Are there any more records of GW sightings for Crompton Moor?

We saw two gooseander today (Sat 20th Feb). Male and female. Cold day, but warm when the sun came out. Brushes Clough is a disused reservoir, deep and cold. No fish. We assume the gooseander are on their way somewhere else, as there would be little to eat in Brushes Clough.
Bob Kenworthy saw 3 Spotted Flycatchers early this morning on the north side of Brushes Clough Plantation at SD958100. Probably the same birds that Dave saw.

For rarer migrants such at Spotted Flycatchers, could I ask that people are precise about numbers, as the database doesn't a facility for "a few" " several" etc. Thanks.

Friday am still a few Spotted Flycatchers around Brushes Clough. A few Bullfinch including one stunning male feeding on Rowan berries.Other birds in the plantations Willow Warblers, Chaffinch and Coal Tit. Dave Phillips
A Spotted Flycatcher was seen early p.m. hawking from a conifer amongst the heather clad spoil mounds, above the access road, near to the car park. This evening Bob Kenworthy found 4 at the eastern end of the conifer plantation to the north-east of Brushes Clough Resr.
