Whiteholme I hear you say,Where is it?.Its a Pennine reservoir just above Rochdale. If you stand on the West side of the reservoir you can toss a stone into the Greater Manchester county. I have been watching Whiteholme now for well over Twentyfive years.Why bother?its difficult to get to,hardly ever see another birder,most of the time absolutely crap. But this past week ! 11th Aug, Spanking pumage Golden Plover,2 Curlew,Twite, 12th Aug, 2 Greenshank.3 Ringed Plover,Golden Plover. 13th Aug, 1 Ringed Plover, 2 Raven, 24 Twite, 14th Aug, 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Raven, 34 Twite, 17th Aug, 5-7 Ringed Plover,2 Dunlin, 18th Aug, 1 Whimbrel, 2 Redshank,1 Dunlin,2 Ringed Plover,3 House Martin, site first. 19th Aug, 2 Dunlin, 2 Ringed Plover. Plus the usual Meadow Pipit,Wheatear, Skylark,Red Grouse, Carrion crow etc. Highlights of the year so far, Spoonbill,Turnstone,Sanderling, Whiteholme list 79 species. Cheers Alan
