Hi Matt,

Had the privelige of going to the Maldives Jan 2008, one thing is for sure you wont need a field guide !
Check here for a trip report Surfbirds Maldives trip report (not mine btw)
We stayed on one of the northern atols and had 4 species of bird in 10 days.
Grey Heron
Lesser Crested Tern
Asian Koel
White-breasted Waterhen

But loads of Fruit Bats.

Loads of Striated Herons around Mali Airport, but thats about as good as it got.
Do what i did go scuba diving, stunning marine life.

Have a great trip
cheers
jason

Has anyone got any recomemdations for field guides for the Maldives?

I presume through searching amazon etc that an Indian Subcontinent guide is my best bet!

But any of you with any info would be great!

Cheers in advance!
