RE: Garden Siskins

A pair of Siskins and a pair of Goldfinch have been visiting our nyjer seed feeder on a daily basis for several weeks now. Sometimes they arrive at the same time, sometimes separtley.
Usually I see these birds at the top of our estate at the top of belmont road and with lots of patience and keeping the nyjer available, they have moved in on the feeders shocked.gif

Hi Steve,

One visiting the feeders in the garden (Atherton) on Friday 24th. Remember, that there were quite a lot in BBW last week - I bet they are breeding in there...

A pair of Siskins flew across Dales Brow in Swinton at 4.30pm this afternoon .They landed in a bush in the small wooded area on the right as you go up the brow, [ the area was called the "Dodgy Dell" in my youthsmile.gif] .I watched them from my car as I was stuck in the traffic waiting to turn on to Worsley road.

They were breeding in or near an Egerton garden until 2003. Also I seem to remember one with a brood patch being caught in Botany Bay Wood a long time ago. When we used to get records from the nearby Worsley Hall Garden Centre (now closed), a birder who worked there often had them in summer, or flying over, presumably from BBW. They are gradually extending their range south, I think.

Found a pair at a local farm yesterday (and hope that they are nesting) so I checked the last county report - last spring record in 2007 was April 22nd.

Hi Steve

I had a pair on my feeders this weekend in Swinton. I have seen them regularly over the past 4 months in my garden.

A pair of siskins were on my garden feeders this evening. Has anyone else been getting them this late in the year? In past years they have gone by early April.
