RE: Best area?

Go to County Bird Sightings, scroll down to the thread you want in this case Astley, Irlam and Chat Mosses and then click "reply" and a box will open into which you type what you want say. You can also click "quote" this will include the question being asked just like this one. Try to see if there is a thread already started on an area by using the "search" facility as this stops more than one thread being opened on the same place and risks the chance of losing data. Hope that helps.

Thanks to John Tymon and Gary Gorner for useful information. I did mean Astley Bridge on the Bridgewater canal. Can anyone explain how I could have got my first question directly on the page dealing with Astley Moss, Irlam Moss and one other I can't remember.

I have been walking with someone for health reasons (theirs not mine) from Astley Bridge along the canal to Vicar's Hall Bridge and having only just been told of this website was intrigued to read of what to me are rarities such as grasshopper warbler being seen or at least heard in this area. I wonder if anyone can suggest the best areas to walk in with bird watching in mind. Not necessarily starting at Astley Bridge.

I see obvious entrances and paths off the towpath yet with signs saying trespassers wil be prosecuted. Talking to a dogwalker today I was advised it meant quad bikers and the like.Is this so? I understand permits are needed for certain parts (Bedford Moss ?) Are they readily obtainable? If so how.

if astley bridge you mean at astley just east of leigh, you can get grasshopper warbler along the stretch you are walking now,ive heard and seen them in the past along that stretch of canal, while fishingconfuse.gifabout ten years ago,but early morning or late evening is best to hear them .smile.gif
