we have no experience of the area so i guess we need walking boots then! weather forecast seems ok and the tide times are favourable so all being good we shall be lost in the wirral tomorrow!! thanks for all the info everyone.
If you can't manage Hilbre try the west end of the Marine Drive in New Brighton ( opp. end to the fort) for Purple Sands. If you go to Thurstaston for the twite you may have to walk as far as the 2nd (southern) set of steps at Tinker's Dell. When Riggers & I had them the other week we turned back just before that point and were lucky to find them on a 2nd circuit. Check the escapement as well as the tidewrack. (How many days did you say you were going for?)
Check the tide times on the Dee estuary site and try and fit in a trip to Hilbre Island. You need to set off and leave not later than 2 hours before high tide. That's where you'll find the Purple Sandpipers and Brent Geese plus tons of other waders if it's not too busy. Great walk along the salt marsh shore out to Red Rocks too.
Wise words Geoff, true : But Pennington on a Sunday ?? It`s alright if you want to count Coots, and trip over dog-walkers every five yards !
Stuff on the Wirral that you won`t see in Rammies include (just off the top of me yed) Brent Geese, Purple Sandpipers, Red-throated Divers, millions of waders, Hen Harriers, Short-eared Owls - I could go on !
Sacralidge, the mans leading you astray, get down to pennington and enjoy whats on your doorstep, then after go and find the feeding station at rindle road, that,s a good days birding and all in g m
I am looking for a good days birding for this sunday (1st march) It seems the wirral is a good place although I want to know where to park etc, as my Dad says if i get the details he will take me, we live in Stretford and I am open to any other suggestions but truth be known Wirral seems my choice though i don't drive!!
