Could I just ask everyone to put the areas of Waxwing sightings on each post please.

This enables anyone not having read previous posts to still know what areas they relate to and not have to either trawl back through the thread or indeed start checking google maps!

The 7 Waxwing were still  in Buckfield Avenue when I left at 2.15,  but it was a pity that the light was so poor.  There were still plenty of berries but there was a group of Redwing and Fieldfare actively feeding on the berries. No problems parking on West Park Street

Having searched Chimney Pots and Gartside yesterday without luck I tried Ordsall today. At Gartside a few berries left but had workmen under the trees so not promising during working hours.

Success in Ordsall.

7 waxwing on a tree on the corner of Buckfield Avenue and West Park Street at 12 pm today. Trees on Buckfield Avenue still loaded with berries so may be around a while.

Pretty sure I heard waxwings around the bus station in Hyde at lunch. Checked the trees but didn't see anything, and forgot to double check on my way back to work. Will try to remember to check again tomorrow.

First heard in the bushes on the north side of the motorway, I saw around half a dozen birds fly to the bus station as I crossed the footbridge, then heard them again but couldn't spot them in the trees

Some late sightings from Andy Makin include:

 

2 on Wigan Lane on Jan 2nd and 2 at Hardebutts, Wigan also on 2nd Jan, with 3 at the latter site on the 3rd along with an impressive 85 Redwing feeding in trees.

The waxwings were in the same rowan tree at MMU at about 12:10 or so before being scared off, along with the redwings. The waxwings then flew west towards Hulme Garden Centre but we couldn't re-locate them despite searching the local area.
Most of the berries on these rowan trees have now been eaten, but there are a few others around the city centre to keep any eye on e.g the trees near the Renault garage on Trinity Read, Salford.

Not a sighting but Ive just noticed a number of Sorbus trees absolutely dripping with berries opposite Kickair on A56 Great Ducie Street near the MEN arena. There were a few Redwing around the area. Id be amazed if the berries dont attract a few Waxwings soon. Well worth keeping an eye on the area. Seems very promising.

For access to the 12 Waxwing in Hulme (at MMU Birley Fields) there is ample parking at Hulme Asda / Retail Park, cross the road and walk down Archway (or Phoenix Way) to meet the footbridge. The Rowan berries are on the left before you meet Princess Road.

Single waxwing on and around small Sorbus tree in front garden of 17/ 19 Stanley road,Old Trafford (cheers Steve). It perches on the Sycamores at rear of Tollgate pub then flies down to a Cherry tree adjacent Slc 4 and then onto the Sorbus tree with orange berries .

At approximately 2pm for two days running there have been 7 or 8 Waxwings flying into Chimney Pot Park in Salford and briefly visiting my friends Rowan tree in his garden adjacent to the park as its the only one still full of berry's in the area. They seem to fly in from the direction of South Langworthy Rd and head off towards Seedley when finished.

I may not be going mad after all.a couple of weeks ago,I was on a train passing Godley,looked out of the window,and saw 

what i thought was a Waxwing in a tree just after leaving the station,The train was only going slow,but I doubted what I had seen.

19.15 Flock of 10 in a tree at junction of Park Road and Windsor Ave in Gatley. Feeding for 5 minutes then flew north Heard more birds (presumably the same flock) on Patterdale Road in Northenden about 10 minutes later.

4 on corner of Wellington Road North / Wingate Road (Heaton Moor/Heaton Chapel) at 17.30 this evening.

they were high up in a very tall tree overlooking the berry bush.

the bush is situated in a front garden and overhangs the pavement of wellington road north.

I came out of work on church road, Bolton this afternoon and heard the trill that I instantly recognised. There were about 20 waxwings in the tree opposite my works. I was surprised as I thought they would be on the move back to Scandinavia. Does anyone know the latest date they have been seen in Greater Manchester in previous years?

I saw these this morning as I was travelling on the bus. I tried to post but the Stagecoach and later TP bus blocked the site. Has anyone else had this problem? does the filter consider our "birds" to be non feathered?
