As well as the 60+ Waxwings (and Sparrowhawk) I've reported on their specific thread, I also saw the following birds at the feeding station here:

  • Male Brambling
  • Male Reed Bunting
  • Greenfinch
  • Several Male and Female Chaffinches
  • 2 Dunnocks
  • 2 Robins
  • 3 Blackbirds
  • Woodpigeon
  • Long-tailed Tit
  • Blue Tit
  • Great Tit
There were also several Chiffchaffs in the nearby trees and two pairs of Great Crested Grebes doing part of their mating dance on the pools. A pair of Coots was also busy nest building and there were a few Mallards and Canada Geese sunning themselves on the banks of the water.

Walked to the Water Park from Highfield and passed the Waxwings (estimate about 90) at 10am.
Sat at the bird feeding station for 20 minutes and saw:
1 pair Blackcap
2 Siskin
6 Blackbird (which appear larger than our Derbyshire ones)
3 Brambling
6 Chaffinch
1 Pair Green Finch
1 Pair Bullfinch
2 Robin
1 Willow Warbler
2 Chiffchaff singing
1 Sparrowhawk which just about put an end to our birding.

What a superb little spot.

Sunny but very cold afternoon.

A pair of Great Crested Grebes on each lake.

The pair on the 2nd lake treated my wife to her first view of the courtship display - she thought it was really cute !!

A Coots nest in the centre of the 1st lake. Female incubating. They'll have to be careful with any change overs as there seems to be a large flock of Black Headed Gulls in residence. At least a dozen Canada Geese on the 1st lake as well.

The feeding station was populated by Chaffinches and very little else.

Kingfisher showing quite well again this morning 10am, she's become a bit of a celebrity now with the dog walkers. I understand she's even survived a brush with a sparrowhawk...(They breed em tough in Wigan)

Other birds of note include bramblings, Long-tailed Tit and a few Reed Buntings.
