Just because i can,t find them in any of the 'cheap' shops
Energizer lithium AA batteries expensive YES but they are very good, after trying the B&Q /toys are us 32/48 for any combination of prices I,ve been using these for a while now nearly 600 images and still going strongalthough i,d like to find some really good rechargeable that won,t flake out after 10 shots.
Still scopes in Bolton Aldi, I think these are a really good buy if only for keeping in the car or, as I do, keep set up in the dining room in case anything lands in the trees that looks interesting.
You did better than me. I went down to the local Aldi on Sunday afternoon and they had sold out of both nestbox cameras and scopes. The early bird and all that...
John Thanks for posting about the Aldi nest box with camera offer. I nipped to the Swinton Aldi yesterday and picked one up. For the price it seems pretty decent , I tried the camera out without putting it in the nest box and got a very good picture on my tv. I will be putting the nest box out in my garden in the coming weeks to go with the other 11 nest boxes [ including 2 Sparrow terraces ] which I already have. I just hope that the birds pick the nest box with the camera in
Lots of bird related offers coming up on Sunday 8th Feb at Aldi.
Camera Nest Box Kit £39.00... Camera pre-fitted to nestbox. Connects direct to TV. 6 LEDs for night watching. 30m combined S-video/power cable. Camera microphone, Scart connector etc.
Has anyone any experience of using this type of kit?

The Aldi Bins are the zoom type. Lidl have porro-prism binoculars from 15th Dec. 10x50s, 5 year guarantee, £12.70. Pick 'em up the same time as your telescope/tripod
As has been said you get what you pay for but they're probably OK to keep under the front seat of the car.

coming soon to a lidel store near you, scope and tripod from bresser £98 for both,it,s advertised as available from the 15/12/08 it,s 90mm x 75 so it maybe a bit cumbersome,I havn,t seen it but if your on a budjet it,s worth looking out for,but buyer beware(once knew the latin for that)in wiganeese tha geets wot tha paays fur.
Just picked up a copy of the Hume/Hayman book from the Arndale. I hadn't looked at this before as I thought it was just an update of the edition I bought over 30 years ago. In fact most of the plates are new and there are more species and many more plumages illustrated. Peter Hayman's plates are excellent and probably show birds from many more angles than any field guide. Not a book to carry around in your pocket but a worthy addition to anyone's library - and only £6.99!
Just got a copy of this excelent book from The Works in Bury, plenty left.
There is another edition of this book which i very nearly paid £25 for not long ago. The illustrations are the same but there's also photographs of each species and it come with a cd rom with bird song and interactive stuff. I've seen in on Amazon for £16.
i baught the edition with the cd rom at xmas from borders books in warrington for £15,also got the new edition for £6.99 from the works.both good books, but the edition with the cd rom has more stuff in it,but beware the cd rom i tried it on the computer and it changed every file i had on the comp to a applet file, and i had to system restore to the previous day

Well well more book stuff Eilleen A Soper excellent artist, and as far as I know produced 3 books When Badgers wake Wild Encounters and Wanders of the field, all have illustrations taken from her notebooks creating a very special atmosphere.
It appears that E.B. was employed as an editor, whether just on Natural History books I don't know, and possibly only by Frederick Warne & co.
I was surprised to find that she had edited a revised (1941) version of a field guide (of sorts) dating back to the 1930s which I bought in around 1965 as a move up from the Observers' Book of Birds. In the Preface she writes " My knowledge of birds must be small compared with his (the authors') lifetime study but in our love for them we are perhaps on an equal footing"
Presumably, she's the editor on the edition of book you saw as well
Paul - I think Ian should ban people trying to push addictive substances (in this case, books) on his website!
Is this the book about the Hebrides? I've seen several "versions" on Amazon: Williamson & Boyd, Boyd & Boyd and even Williamson, Boyd & Enid Blyton (the mind boggles - Noddy & Big Ears go Twitching?)! Let me know how much you want for it but I must warn you the book kitty is pretty low at the moment - I seem to have started collecting editions of Selborne with good illustrations (there are a lot of them!)
Once again people this is a great bargain, originally was going to give it to my lad, but to be honest it is to good for him, he can wait till I pop my clogs and can have it with the rest of the 200 club books,
This book is on a par with the collins large format copy.
Steve, need a good home for a copy of Williamson and Boyd A Mosaic of Islands sadly without a dust cover but needs somewhere new to live as my wife has noticed dupilcate copies appearing on my shelves, can you help?

Paul picked up a copy today cracking bargin,it,s A4+ makes it easy on the eyes and it,s got lots of 'collins' features only bigger. The Works is on george st half way up or down depending on your mood,at least 10 still on the shelf.
Not quite the collins large format but The Works ( bookshop) in Altringham has got a fair number of.
The Complete guide to Birdlife of Britain and Europe by Peter Hayman and Rob Hulme it is a large format book of the classic guide, normally £25 selling them off at £6.99
not a bad bargain features 430 species with some excellent plates.
Erm, no Paul, far from it. There is no place on my shelves for books that won't get read but £7:50 for a big book like that is an offer no one should refuse
If anyone's heading that way to pick up a copy is there a chance they could pick me one up whilst they're there? I'm not one for collecting books but it's a real bargain and if there's one available I'd jump at one but can't get up that way curently.
re birds britannica,i,ve only dipped and picture read bits of it ,but it seems a fastenating in depth mix of information on british birds,i,ll never turn my back to a water rail now i know what they get up to.
dave, sent the missus in to secure a copy, as you said £14.98 sticker price with 50% reduction at the till = one very nice book for £7.42 (4 copies left ont shelf) top bargain when the best I could find on the 'net' was £35.
There are a few copies of Birds Brittanica available, strangely, in Wigan B&Q for £14.98. As you could spend several months wandering the store, which is about the size of Andorra, as you walk in turn left and they are among a small shelf of books, mainly gardening, etc, on your LHS
always on the look out for a bargin?? aldi in altrincham have some robust looking tripods for sale at a cracking 11.99, i didn,t open the box fearfull of having to get it back in there,
