Aldi Bolton ''special buy'' 1 kg. Sunflower Hearts £1.99
The mixed seed that I got from here is being taken at a reasonable rate, Coal Tits, Robins and Dunnock the most frequent seen
at this feeder.

Yes David, having now read this full thread I realise that I may have erred.
I have not opened the bag yet as I have a stock from my local pet shop which alas is closing.
Aldi's is called wild bird seed mix, suitable, it states,
for Tits, Finches and Nuthatch and Sparrows... branded ''Birdbox'' and produced in Austria.
Said to contain: Black Sunflower seed, red dari, maize, whole oats and barley and wheat
Some of the dearer food do contain cereal.
It will be a few weeks before I need to open, the very strong, bag.. I'll let you know how the birds take to it.

I have now put a tube out from the bag. Visually the mixture has a good amount of Black Sunflower seed
( more than my present mix which goes well) and the red dari can be seen everywhere in the mix. It's down to the birds now!

If anyone is interested in finding out what wildlife visits your garden Aldi are selling a wildlife cam or sometimes called trailcams for just under £70 today. There are just two left at the Aldi store at the Irlams of the heights .

I bought a Lidl one for daughter, really not bad for the money.

Ancoats Aldi - if you go right to the middle of the store, on the horizontal aisle there's a cabinet with various things in it for sale, including a spotting scope - can't remember the spec of my head but seemed good value (inc. table tripod) at 26.99 - since we've always lauded them here might as well do with this - something for a grandchild to use or something?

At Barton Grange Garden Centre, Bolton (next to Rumworth Lodge)....

These are not available in the aldi,netto shops but they do fit into the 'price buster' ethos of the thread
I recently purchased a pair of Helios Aero 10x42 ED binoculars via the well known auction site for £140,two months down the line and a good few soakings I,m still very pleased with them,the only review I ,ve found is at Bestbinocular.com and thats at 8x42.So roughly 90% of the top names performance for 10% of the price.Info only and buyer beware.

Yet another bird book for my collection....the feathered variety that is!
"Birds Of The World"....DK nature guide series, only£3.99 at Aldi, Stockport this morning.
A bit of a strange mish-mash of our feathered friends...i.e. ....Red Breasted Merganser on one side of the page,and an Emperor Penguin on the other,
but a nice book to have nevertheless.
Plus they've also got a large selection of bird feeders and seed etc.

Thanks all for the 'heads up' on this. We don't have many Aldi down here in the south, but the store I visited had loads in stock and I picked up a couple inc 1 for a present.

Also got my sister to pick up one from their store in Middleton. A great bargain! Thanks!

I know, it's not ideal. Testing in store obviously doesn't give you an indication of the scopes ability, but it does seperate the goods from the duds in terms of a clear and focused image. I have tested it since at home at further distances (down the road) and I am over the moon with it.

Picked up one of the aldi spotting scopes this morning for £19.99. When I got it home I set it up and had a look through it and was seeing two of everything! I had a fiddle around with it but it didn't improve.

Unimpressed I took it back and asked to change it and test a few more before I picked one. They were fine with this so I tested another 3 in store, two of them were absolutly fine but 1 other didn't seem to focus correctly.

With it being only £20 I took one of the good ones and it seems to be very good for the price.

The true test will come next week when I take it up to parkgate and see how it copes with following harriers accross the marsh. For anybody thinking fo buying one, just make sure you TEST IT IN STORE before you buy!

Bought a pair of the £13.99 10x50's today from Lidl after hearing good reports about them.

I know they are cheap but don't be put off, I was pleasantly suprised at just how good these bins are for the money.

Optically they are very good and I would fully recommend these to anybody looking for a spare pair to keep in the car!!

I purchased 2 sacks of bird seed from Aldi recently. When I opened them I found that they contained 95% grain with a smattering of black sunflower seeds plus white bits that I could not identify. Obviously this was unsuitable for bird feeders as small birds such as tits and finches will not eat grain. I have spread it across the lawn for the Woodpigeons and Pheasants and even they are turning their noses up at it if there is something better available.

Quite frankly, Aldi should be reported to trades description because their advertised bird seed is not seed at all. And they should be taken to task for misleading people into feeding unsuitable food to small garden birds.

Meal worms were better value in Wilkinsons I found. There were six scopes left in Aldi in Ashton today, plenty of nest box cameras, bird tables, etc

Aldi in Bury (Rochdale rd) had about a dozen left yesterday. I just bough three from them - one for me and two for friends in the south who are too posh to go to Aldi.

We have just been in Aldi in Sale and they have plenty of everything, scopes, nesting boxes, camera boxes and tables. We have one of the older aldi scopes and i have to say the current (cheaper) version appears to be crisper and better contrast than the older version.

Has anyone bought the bird table from aldi? How tall is it and is it decent quality?

Using the twitching tactics of 2008, I ran from the A6 to the bird, without my scope in the hope that someone else would have one, and I must say the view through Judiths scope was fine, well worth the £20.

Rigger how that secret year list, great bird to have.
