I was present this morning and no sign - other birders had put some hours in over last 2 days and no sign. Apparently the only person to see it in the last 3 days is the ringer....
Although there was a report Monday a.m. there were no other confirmed sightings - I was there from 17:45 to 20:15 - not a glimmer - despite an attempt to tape lure it (not me before you ask).
There is a feeling that the Monday am report was desoigned to take the heat off the ringer.....
Typical - work and family commitments keep me in Bury for the next two weeks. Never mind - that's the life of a less than dedicated birder! It's only a little brown bird after all.
I've just read an identical comment to Paul's concerning the trapping and ringing of the Mel Warb() on the East Lancs Ornithological web site, people are not happy Cheers Ian ps Does this topic merit a thread on the general discussion pages ?
Unfortunately, after being ringed it disappeared. A bit annoyed that they decided to trap and ring it early on a Saturday morning - when lots of birders would have been getting ready to travel to see it - me included!!
Confirmed as a Melodious Warbler yesterday on the Friday, in the field, by birders, with binoculars, knowledge, experience and discussion, which is as it should be
Had reasonable views today and did voice the view to anyone was listening that we needed to make sure it wasn't a Melody...song wasn't really quite right for either but it must be one or the other given its nice yellow underparts. The main problem was that leaves were blowing in front of it all the time and it didn't stay long in one place, though usually comes back to the same area in the alder tree. Not possible to see pale wing patch. Not easy to find the turn-off from the B6236 - look for blue Bridleway sign. Some parking in laybys in first 200m which is paved. Then continue down lane to gate in wall on RH side, with stile. Go down footpath to join a bigger path alond edge of lodge (turn left onto this) The bird is at the N end of the northern of the 2 lodges.

One singing only about 5 miles from the GM border: 19/06 12:52 LANCASHIRE : Icterine Warbler, Jackhouse Reservoir [A] Park in B6236 Haslingden Road layby and walk north along Cobbs Lane for 1/3 mile SD742260 (12:05) Can be elusive but preset 2 weeks - first thought to be a Marsh Warbler.
