Thought I'd make my 100th posting on the forum a good un - was watching at least two Hobby for about two hours 11.30 - 13.30 catching dragon flies etc - at the same time in discussion with one of the local guys (Pete H) who predicted that this was the best time to view the birds when they first arrived in June. There was also a Water Rail calling but we didn't see it.
PS thanks for the chat Pete - hope that you sorted your video out!!!
First time visit to this site , nice weather and enjoyed the walk but did not see my target bird the Hobby, but did see a Red kite from the tower hide soaring high heading west.
went on sunday morning with my Dad and as soon as we arrived 2 Hobbies were skimming across the water for about 5 mins and then they drifted higher up and were joined by a Buzzard and a Kestrel.
l went to Risley Moss today tempted by Pete Berry's posts about the Hobby. Met some locals who informed me it'd been out but l'd arrived at 'the dead zone' typical....(between 2.30 and 3.30) anyway l hung around and sure enough, out it came.(L) A very impressive bird, soaring, hunting and just enjoying it's life, really lovely to see l'll definitely go back and watch it again. Luv birding.......
Had a couple of hours this afternoon and had almost continuous views of up to 3 birds in the air feeding on insects. As soon as the sun went in the Hobbies disappeared.
