RE: Roman Lakes, Marple

Yes it has got much bigger over last decade Rae - fishing one accessed from the canal is looking in a sorry state these days. Bluebells are just starting: several song thrush territories, goosander often on the river & lapwing wheeling & diving both by the pool, & north of the Dunkirk Lane car park.

If the pool is the one on the field on the otherside of the river as you come down the path then I'm not sure it's got a name as I think it started off as a vrey large puddle/ground water that's spread- we've seen it getting bigger over the last 15 years to its present size.
The only other one is the fishing pond accessed from canal side but I'm guessing you don't mean that.
Bluebells should be looking good there now.

c. 60 swallows, c. 30 sand martins & 6 house martins feeding above Roman Lakes, Marple 6pm on 17th. Dancing GC Grebes completed great picture.

On 15th at 6pm, there were 4 swallows, a common sand & a ringed plover at the pool across the River Tame from Dunkirk Farm - off Dukinfield Rd between Hyde & Dukinfield. Does this pool have a name plse?

There's earache from chiffchaff in the woods along the R Tame too!
