spent most of the evening with grouse, no not on the moors, a nice bottle, and the Manchester bird reports from 1959 to 1965 how life has changed,
A bit late now but excellent programme on Radio 4 this morning LIVING WORLD 06.35 all about The Search for Dippers, can be heard again if you access radio 4 website to listen on-line, repeats on the radioweirdface.gif

Just watched the English throwers of the odd shaped ball (with odd shaped ears and noses) stuff the French droppers of the odd shaped ballbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif
What about the scotland player earlier? Had a broken leg but got up to defend before realising he'd hurt himself.

Going to go and watch some more birds on Match of the day now.wink.gif

But Paul, the odd shaped ball game only starts at 8pm and after just watching the excellent Scilly programme why not settle down and support just about the only think our country's good at, although we've not even been that of late! Can't even claim to be the best birders either, I think the Finnish or Swedes have the claim to that personally?

Not one for sports me self so will not be watching anyone throwing a odd shape ball around a pitch tonight,no sir will be watching BBC2

The British motoring show Top Gear was able to beat the cameras by speed with a TVR Tuscan S at 170 mph, albeit with a UK-spec Gatso speed camera. Speed cameras in the UK require two consecutive photographs for a conviction, US speed cameras require only one. As part of the revisit, the Mythbusters were able to beat the camera using a jet-powered car traveling at 245 mph.

ok here goes they had a falconer fly two peregrines through a speed trap and it did record them but only as they 'pulled up' at the end of a flight so a measly 40 miles an hour which must be cruising for a peregrine.They also tried to beat the camera by speeding past in a ferrari 137 mph
was the best?? they could muster and it still got them,personally i favour the fake number plate trick if your going to speed,which i,m much to old to try.

i know this is not on t v but a programme starting on on feb 19
on radio 4 at 11.00am called [world on the move] all about migration
and every tues after that for about 6 weeks

I think a Mallard triggered a camera once in Sweden or somewhere.
A speeding ticket is for a traffic violation and I guess if you don't touch the ground they can't do you - hmmm would Evel Kneivel get a ticket if he 'flew' past ?

Incidently I think Top Gear tried to prove that if you went past at say 150mph you wouldn't get done as the camera wouldn't trip in time.

I,ve just watched another episode of mythbusters on discovery(sad but true) the question they addressed ?? if a bird flew through a speed camera would it get a ticket,your best guess please.
and yes I do know the answer I,ll post it tomorrow( 1 m 2 r,s)

Anyway don't know why you're mad.gif you USUALLY 'phone me five minutes into a birding programme I'm already watching to tell me that it's on. What's newbiggrin.gif


Actually I was a bit disappointed with it. Interesting subjects, great photography but I thought the script for the gyrs was a bit rubbish. What was all that tosh about the female having to go hunting? I thought that was usual with birds of prey and indeed most altrical breeders. Then there was that stuff about the male stopping bringing prey when the leverets got too big. They showed the female struggling and she looked MORE than a third bigger so he would have had no chance. I reckon when the producers and the series editor found they'd lost their aww.gif factor when the wolves didn't litter they thought they'd better have a "dramatic" story to cover three weeks woth of falcon chicks slumped on a ledge. We've all seen on Springwatch how inactive chicks can be. If there really was a problem with their breeding success I'd have rather seen them compared to another pair that WERE taking seabirds. Still, worth it for the pictures.

Just watched a programme on TV about Gry falcons and Arctic Wolves (BBC2 7pm) and I know its a bit late for you who didn't see it-but what about posting a birds on TV schedule. I would have missed the programme if iI didn't switch on BBC2 by accident, so if anybody sees a programme advertised with bird content get it on here. Then all of us who can't be arsed trawling through The Metro, TV Times etc will be able to watch it.smile.gif

PS Sesame Street doesnt count-cause thats a man dressed as a bird, a very big yellow bird at that!!!!wink.gif
