RE: Chadderton 21/1.

There used to be a small rookery at Mainway, Middleton and in Alkrington Woods, but both may have disappeared. There is still a big rookery at Birch (just visible from the M62) on the main road, which is rarely counted. I could see nests recently.

Had a saunter this p.m. around the area near Foxdenton Hall & also some of the local farmland and sections of the Rochdale Canal close by.

Plenty of the expected species plus - 3 Siskin, 1 Meadow Pipit, 9+ Mistle Thrush (including a singing bird), 2 Fieldfare, 3 LBB Gull, 1 Common Gull. Biggest surprise was coming across 7 Rooks. This area is close to my home and I frequently walk in this area and I have never come across Rooks here before - so something of a bonus smile.gif

Cheers,

Bill.
