On Friday I observed over 100 hypocolius feeding in an abandoned garden in Jasra. Birds had been initially observed in this area by Dr. Brendan Kavanagh, our resident BTO ringer. On Saturday Howard King, the Bahrain recorder, saw over 300 birds in the same location and today managed to take over 20 photographs of the birds feeding and drinking.
This is a significant find because previously we had only been able to locate an evening roost, which due to building work etc. is fast disappearing. Anyone who wants to tick these birds off their life list should get over to Bahrain before they fly north again. If anyone does think of making the trip, contact me and I'll put you in touch with Howard who is always happy to escort visitors to the site.
Hopefully in the coming weeks, I will be able to get to the site and take some photographs. Until then, here's a link to Howard's pictures. www.hawar-islands.com/blog/9_stub.php
