Ive seen little owl and tawny owl quite a lot on that side. if you go on there as its getting dark and just walk the circuit you should see them.

check the tops of trees, small bushes, fence posts etc. also check the sky for them flying over.

if you take that long straight path that goes through the centre they seem to like that area.

Walk through the gate on Lily Lane/Bolton Road (near the speed camera), on to the path through the paddocks. Once through the gate look left, up the hill, towards Lily Farm (not Lily Lane Farm, confusing I know). The owl was on a fencepost of the fence surrounding the wooded area at Lily Farm.

Not a lot this am. 12 Carrion Crows mobbing a Buzzard provided some entertainment. There was a bit of a 'movement' of Fieldfares with over 200 in several flocks moving north west towards Wigan Flashes. Otherwise all the usual suspects and no sign of any Ravens.

4 Ravens east side of the wood today at 3pm really close views of them perched and in flight , must be the same 4 seen by Ian Woosey earlier at Abram flashes.

And when you realise this site abuts onto the higher part of the Abram Flashes about a mile from Lightshaw, and a lot of those 37 dogs enjoy a swim in the summer months in Glover's Pool or Coffin Brook Flash, disturbing breeding wildfowl and waders as they do it, you can see why we don't want more of the same at Lightshaw.
(Will put a link for our "partners" on the General Birding Discussion page!

Late start 9.00 till 11.30

I did a full circuit of this site today checking out a few nooks and crannies ,a very pleasant meander around i,ll not bother you with a list of birds seen and noted, but the highlights,200+wood pigeon 2 grey heron,20 meadow pipit,2 raven (honking all the way over,)2 kestrel ( 1 guarding a prey item from the other) 1 jay. Also of note and the reason i went there 37 dogs of various breeds with 29 devoted owners(just a bit surprised at my ability to i.d. the dogs)all enjoying the place, all off the lead and having fun, can,t blame them can you nice car park, nice paths and loads of grass to poo in doggy heaven,as long as you can drive there and not get to messy,Just to add I met 1 person without a dog
Yes I did drive there
Yes I do have an axe to grind
Yes it is a red rose site

Geoff( don,t get me started on the litter and poo bags hung int trees)
