I don't suppose there's any way you can get a scope on the gasometer birds, Dave? It would be interesting to see if 2006 juvs are coming back with a view to breeding.

Lightshaw hall Flash is sacrosanct - NO paths please!
Peregrine flying high over my works on Liverpool street in Salford this morning at 8.30am and later at 15.50 two peregrines flew up from their perch on the gasometer across the road and headed towards Manchester centre.
I'm interested to know how many Peregrines are actually thought to be in the Manchester and Salford area. Anyone hazard a guess?
I was spending the whole day on a wood-engraving course and I don't think the other course participants would have been too enamoured by the presence of a corpse (it was a very hot day and the body was already crawling with flies). If I had actually been out with the intention of birding I would probably have had my supply of plastic sample bags with me, but I was loaded down with books, tools, etc (always make room for the bins though!).
Late post (not that it matters). Had time to kill in Salford on Saturday morning so had a look at the river from the terrace of the Old Pint Pot. Dead Kingfisher which must have flown into the pub windows the previous night. Also, pair of Little Grebes, Cormorant plus usual Mallard, Canadas and Moorhen.
Couple of ringed plover, grey wag, heron swallow sand martin coot and LBB Gull and several BH gull 2 mute swans all in one little spot on Pomona docks just down from no 3 dock today. a little hive of bird life in one spot.
1 adult Little Grebe and 5 Tufted Duck on the River Irwell between Salford University and Castle Irwell, also Song Thrush in Salford University grounds

A RN Parrakeet flew over the main road in Weaste Cemetery today at 12.15pm. It could be clearly heard calling but not seen while it perched in a tree near the RC part of the cemetery.
I was told this morning about a Peregrine which was sat on the Gala Bingo hall next to Salford Precinct yesterday happily eating a pigeon in full view of people entering the building.
Also 5 Grey wagtails perched on the wall of EMR scrapyard beside Liverpool street at 12.35pm today
9.55 am A Peregrine caught a BH Gull this morning which had been perched on my works roof at Liverpool street in Salford. There are normally between 20-30 gulls resting on the roof throughout the day and I think that the Peregrine swooped down from the opposite gasometer and flushed the gulls into the air. I was at the side of the building and heard the gulls start making a racket and as I looked up the Peregrine flew past and landed on to the next firms roof while carrying the flapping gull. It took about 30 seconds for the Peregrine to kill the gull which was struggling causing both birds to slip down the roof. The rest of the gulls were screaming and doing their best to move the Peregrine off which it finally did carrying the unfortunate gull. Nature in the raw.
A Peregrine was sat on the Liverpool street Gasometer today at 12.35pm with another bird flying overhead possibly displaying as it was swooping down towards the perched bird then soaring back up into the air. It did this a couple of times before perching near the other bird.
Sunday 16/12 1.15PM Sleeping Tawny Owl in Weaste Cemetery with also a male Bullfinch seen in the trees near the VC Grave at the end of the road.
Today Peregrine on the Gasometer on Liverpool street at 9.20 am. At least 25 Redwing either on the gasometer or eating the berries in the trees opposite at 12.35 pm
