Approx 30 Parakeets flying west over Hulme Community Garden Centre at 8.30am this morning followed by a group of 13 five minutes later. Not the usual cacophony, just a few calls and flying quite low, eaves height.
Good afternoon
I'm interested in doing some roost counts of ring-necked parakeets in the Greater Manchester area.
Does anyone know of any active roost sites which would be good to do a count?
Many thanks,
Amy

Nipped round to my brothers house (Dane Bank, Denton) late afternoon, he had 1 on the feeders, 3 in the tree at the back and nextdoor had 5 on their feeder all at the same time.
Then about 5 mins later c15-20 birds flew low over the garden at speed heading towards Reddish
There are now 2 R N Parakeets doing a right noisy squawk fest for about half hour mid morning - if this is what 2 sounds like I'm not looking forward to them breeding!
Yesterday 25th Sept c. 6pm ish, was surprised to see a tight flock of I'd guess at least 70+ flying northeast over Rossett Ave., Timperley.
By far the most I've seen in the area but as I live in Wales it may be normal!?..

I was leaving the centre of Manchester yesterday at around 1930 (dusk) and was stationary in traffic whilst travelling south on Princess Parkway (A5103) prior to the junction with Greenheys Lane (the intersection with Asda and Heineken). Within the trees to the east of the A5103 there was a large number of Ring-necked Parakeet. In the short time I was there they then moved, to what I can only assume is a regular roosting site, into the tall trees between the northbound and southbound carriageways at this point. I would estimate in excess of 200 birds, with many short tailed (juvenile) birds. Driving on I could see another flock coming towards the roost site from the Moss Side direction. If anybody lives locally to that location it would be interesting to get a proper count.
3 flocks over Addison crescent, old trafford this morning at 7.30am, 23, 6 & 5, the 6 twisted & turned to lose height & looked to be heading into my garden but then changed there mind. 1 was in my neighbours garden shortly after.
One heard in Leigh Cemetery mid afternoon & since its only about a quarter of a mile (as the crow flies) from Hall House Woods, I'm assuming it's the same bird from there as I haven't seen or heard it for over a week.
Bit quiet on the Parakeet front until this weekend.
Friday morning - 1 over Reddish works yard Friday evening- 7 over Greenbank Park, Levenshulme Saturday morning - 2 over Hulme Road, Dane Bank Saturday afternoon- 1 over Ashton-u-Lyne town centre
A nice quiet sunday afternoon in the garden was brought to an abrupt end with a tirade of squawking for about half an hour by the Ring-Necked Parakeet in Hall House Woods Leigh - still can't get a pic of it as it's very mobile & well camouflaged in the canopy.
Having not seen or heard the one nearby at Hall House Woods Leigh for nearly 3 weeks I assumed it had either moved on or been predated by the local Peregrines, but then after tea this evening it was heard & seen flying down the Bridgewater canal heading towards Hall House Bridge Leigh.
Large flock of c.30 over Sale Moor heading NE to River Mersey roost site around 1915 last night. Usually see 2-15 each evening so noticeably large number last night.
None for a few days then a bit of a flurry of activity in last day or something.
Thurs 11th Aug - 2 over Reddish works yard towards Dane Bank (am)
Fri 12th Aug - 1 over works yard towards South Reddish (am) - 1 over Hyde Rd / Redgate Recycling (afternoon) - 1 then 3 over Reddish works yard towards Levenshulme (afternoon) - 2 over Hulme Rd, Dane Bank (afternoon) - 2 over Greenbank Park, Levenshulme (evening) - 6 over Barlow Rd, Levenshulme towards Fallowfield (evening)
