15 Whoopers or Bewicks flying South over MAN airport, Wednesday, 17th October. As I say, couldn't tell type, but definitely not Mute! Anyone else seen swan movements recently and are they most probably Whoopers?
Hobbys don't take any prey bigger than a Swift or Skylark. If it was a Wood Pigeon then only large female Spars would attempt to take one,the males don't usually go for anything bigger than a Collared Dove.
Last Sunday 30th September, was almost certain I saw a Hobby rather than a Sparrowhawk chasing a pigeon down one of the country lanes. It seemed smaller than a Sparrowhawk but had the blue plumage with what lokked like red underneath.
Signs of migration seen from the Aviation Viewing Park at Manchester Airport, Wednesday, 3rd October.
5 Swallows heading the correct way viz. south. Meadow Pipits and Pied Wagtails about. 3 Redwings. 1 Wheatear. Also a Sparrowhawk upsetting the Starlings. A group of 15 LT Tits.
