just of out interest the east coast from Scotland to Kent has seen some of the highest numbers of Little Auks ever recorded in Britain in the last few days.
No less than 28,803 (god knows how they counted them) flew north past the Farne Islands today. I think Whitburn had 19,000+ past on friday.
Sonia and I opted for the Flamborough area, after Audenshaw of course ( ahem County comes first!).
Our haul for the day included Buff-breasted Sand, Isabelline Shrike, Red-breasted Fly, Yellow-browed Warbler, Sabine's Gull, Sooty Shearwater, and Red-throated Diver.
Not a bad haul Warfy and although I didn't actually play today (only had the 7 staples removed from me 'ead this morning) I did go and offer my support. Big flocks of Pink-feet flying over the ground which was at British Aerospace at Warton!
29th September - full day at Spurn/Kilnsea and Easington. Not a massive fall by any means but plenty to look at, as Ian would say a few bits and bobs, highlights as follows:-
Greenish Warbler 1 Yellow Browed Warbler 2 Great Grey Shrike 2 Barn Owl 1 Jack Snipe 2 Little Stint 2 - Sammys point to 10 yards at high tide. Med Gull 3 Little Gull 7 Redstart 10+ Pied Fly 1 Spot Fly 3 Wheatear 1 Redwings 300 Fieldfare 5 Ring Ouzel 1 Song Thrush 30 Siskin 10 Brambling 2 Goldcrest 50+ Chiffchaff 10 Willow Warbler 8 73 Pink Feet in off.
With high pressure over Scandinavia and aparently cloudless skies there too theres currently lots of birds moving south and with the easterly winds associated with this low pressure for the next 4 days at least, potentially things could be very exciting indeed in the next week!! Especially looking at ones turned up today, how good is shetland? Always wanted to see Sibe Thrush. Anyway me and my Dad are probably heading to Spurn tomorrow, last time a Whites Thrush turned up while we were there. I presume your playing rugby tomorrow though.
With some nice birds around on the east coast at the moment and things looking perhaps set to increase (not as much as up on Shetland though I don't suppose), anybody thinking of a day out up Spurn or Flamborough way in the week coming up? Basically I'm flippin' desperate to get out there but have transport trouble (my missus needs the car most days), so if you're off up that way and have a space (boot space or roof rack seriously considered) let me know
