I went up to Watergrove this afternoon to look for Whinchat, a species that has eluded me so far this year. Just when I was beginning to despair of anything good turning up this autumn, as so far there has not been a single wader here apart from a few Lapwings. An immature Yellow Wagtail was feeding on the dam slope, the first here since 2004. Then I noticed 5 duck out in the middle of the resr which were female/immature Pintail. They had not been here this morning at 10:15 hrs. They were present from 13:30 to 14:40 hrs when they took flight and departed high up to the SW. This is only the 3rd record of Pintail at Watergrove and the 2nd highest count.
