No sign of the Glaucous Gull, the roost held 2 ad Yellow-legged gulls, the regular Leucistic Black-headed Gull and another aberrant Black-headed Gull or possibly a Black-head/Med hybrid with pure white primaries.
Otherwise 2 Pochard with the Tufted Duck flock and up to 18 Golden Plovers.
1W Glaucous Gull in roost this evening, came in pretty early and is a different bird than the last Quite a number of larger gulls came in late including quite a few GBB's 3 adult Yellow-Legged Gulls c100 Goldeneye most of which came in after dark c15 Golden Plover
plus the usual stuff - had a good scan through the large flock of Jackdaws gathered on the bank of no 3 prior to going to roost but couldn't see any with white collars!
nice one steve. i think this is the area i saw peewits displaying over a few years ago but never got round to checking it out. i think new years day might be a good time try, if i can sneak off for an hour or two cheers
It's the big open area on the left running along the opposite side of the motorway to the reservoirs. I presume it's the old part of the reservoir before it was split by the motorway. I put my wellies on as it's pretty wet underfoot. The snipe were more towards the far end in the centre area but before the ditch which runs from the road to almost the motorway embankment. A lot of people walk dogs on there, so it's hit and miss with the timing. I did the same thing a few weeks ago and had nothing but thought they might not have been out much over christmas! Best of luck Steve
alright steve. where exactly did you find the jacks? was it actually off kings road as i havent yet got a permit for the resers and jack snipe would be a lifer for me. cheers
Not quite as cold tonight but a bit of a breeze. On the King's road side 10 snipe and 4 jack snipe were flushed. It is always possible one or two of the jack snipe were the same bird as they went up as singles but none of them seemed close to where they went back down after flushing. In fact, they went up as I was walking to where the first one went down but couldn't find it! Perhaps the dog walkers havn't been out as much over christmas. On the reservoirs were the usual and 2 Redshank 2 Shoveler 6 Pochard Still looking for those "extra" gulls! Cheers Steve
Very murky conditions tonight and no extra gulls. Usual gulls, tufted, goldeneye grebes etc In addition were:
1 Barnacle goose with canada geese but flew off before others arrived for roost 2 pochard 3 redshank 1 golden plover ( although I believe there were more earlier) Cheers Steve
Just Paul Wren and I there tonight. Difficult light later on number 2 - I don't know how you pick up some of the stuff near dusk but I'll keep trying! 2 Yellow-legged gulls (one on No 2 and the other on No 3). One with a very white head had a much darker mantle than the last one I saw there so there may be a few different birds turning up. No other gulls of note picked out.
3 redshank 9 teal 3 pochard 22 goosander and usual supporting cast (tufted duck, goldeneye, gulls etc) Steve

the details re permits are on the website under the whos who section, it not Ed anymore but a chap called Ian Leech. As for a route in until you get a permit you cant get in as they have secured the sight and you need a key ..
ring Ian Leech and speak to himand he will be able to tell you if there is still a waiting list.
Can someone help please - I am trying to find out what is the procedure for getting into Audenshaw Res regarding requirement for permit and the actual route in. I have driven round but cannot see a way in!!
