Most of us gave up and went home without having seen it. Two 5 mile round trips from the car park next to the pub for me and Brian Fielding. But someone saw it again back at White Holme at 5.55pm. Info from Birdguides.

Baird's Sandpiper on Warland Reservoir (just NW of White Holme Res) at 2:30pm at least today. In the bay on the south eastern side but very difficult to view and probably still in West Yorkshire but very close to the GM county boundary (please see the BlackStone Edge, Light Hazzles and environs thread for any further info from this site).
Decided to stop off on way home from work this afternoon and was thrilled to see a short eared owl. It gave excellent views both hunting and sitting on fence posts beside the B6138.
If you use the search facility, there is a thread called 'Lighthazzles area' which would benefit greatly from your posts and includes last year's littoralis Rock Pipit to name a few. Your posts would resurrect that thread nicely I think.
Well, wherever it is we went. The Pub must be in GM as it is just past the Rochdale & Littleborough Road signs. I assume part of the path up to the re. is also GM, so just up the path, we saw, some Curlew and Lapwings. Also to ravens which were probably over the Road when we saw them. Meadow pipits and a lot of Skylarks were around and probably in GM as well.
At the Res/feeding station we had lunch after walking round Warland, and saw a lot of Twite - some right in front of us on the ground, and drinking in the beck.
Where do I post for the bits that are in GM? as most of the stuff was seen up the bank from the path to the wall of Blackstone Edge Res?
Was there yesterday, 31st March, hoping to see the Twite but unfortunately drew a blank. There were numerous Meadow Pipits present with Skylarks giving their all, a couple of Crows, a lone Lapwing and a pair of Wheatears on the north bank of Light Hazzles

White Holme is actually fairly well watched - mainly by Alan Nuttall - and you've got to admire his dedication as it's not unusual to spend a couple of hours up there and end up with a sum total of 5 Carrion Crows, 4 pylons and a couple of sheep for your troubles. However it does have potential at passage times and Alan has dug out some very good birds including Avocet and Red Kite in the last couple of years. In the past it's had Wilson's Phalarope and quite a few other good waders but it's a true local patch and you are likely to have to spend a LOT of time there before you see anything decent. However there are a few Twite back at the feeding station there at the moment and there's always a reasonable chance of Red Grouse and Raven. It's just a shame it's not in GM - if only we could invade Yorkshire and push back the county boundary a few extra metres.
The site is in fact not classed as in Greater Manchester which may be why there are no current postings in this section of the forum, then again I don't think there are any in the out of county either
Hello all, "We Three" were considering this site for our outing this week, however there has not been any postings for ages. Does anyone know if this and the adjacent Res. are worth visiting? If not we will think again.
A Sanderling here this evening - also 10 Dunlin, 1 Ringed Plover, 2 Common Sand & 5 LRPs. I know that this site is technically in West Yorkshire but you could see the birds from Greater Manchester with a decent scope! Simon
