A Grey Wagtail was collecting food on Liverpool street in Salford today at 12.35 pm carefully avoiding the speeding cars.It flew off in the direction of the railway embankments so it is possibly breeding there.
One on top of Slimline Centre on Langworthy Road, with a mouthful of insects and calling constantly (perhaps feeding young nearby ?), bird has a partially black throat so think it's a first summer male

One year there were at least 5 prs breeding in the city centre. One pr was on the courts at Minshull st, another pr on Kennedy St nr the Town Hall and a 3rd pr on the canal at what was Dale St car park before it was all prettified up. Probably all still there - depends on how much Black Redstart searching goes on! I bet there are a few pairs along the rivers as well.

Lightshaw hall Flash is sacrosanct - NO paths please!
Over the last 10 years normally around the end of May till July I have seen Grey wagtails flying around the Brunel Ave area of Salford .The birds fly in from the railway line in between Liverpool street and the Cresent and I have watched them catching and collecting food around the buildings and roads. The railway area is not accessible so I am not too sure if they breed there and at the moment I still have not seen them this year. From my workplace on Liverpool street Pied wagtails can be seen nearly every day and there are usually a couple of Yellow wagtails seen in the summer. Also ,last year a pair of Greys nested in the conifers in the rear carpark of the Monton House hotel in Monton and raised a couple of young which I saw chasing their parents for food in and around the cars parked there
I have found that having a pond in your garden attracts wagtails as well as other birds and I have had Pied,Grey and Yellow visit my pond at my home in Swinton.
About 3 days ago saw a Grey Wagtail in song flight over rough ground off Langworthy Road, and today saw one (the same?) on top of Langworthy Road Post Office !!!!
