RE: Black Redstart in Bolton from the 1970's

Many thanks Ian.

I had 74-76 as the probable years so 75 fits perfectly. Nice to finally put a date on it.biggrin.gif

Cheers
Dean.

Hi Dean,

I`ve looked in the `76 Report and have found the following snippet ;

`The male present near the centre of Bolton at the end of 1975 remained until late March`

No mention in the `77, `78 & `79 Reports from Bolton and no mention of a P Matley in the lists of contributers.

Hope this is of help.

I've just sent my county life list to Ian and on it i have a sighting of Black Redstart from years ago. I was just wondering if there is any other records of this bird?
We saw it on a building or demolition site in Gas st which was off Moor lane in the town centre. A friend and I were told about it by a guy we met at Rumworth lodge i think his name was Pete Matley and would have been about 50 at the time, who took us to the site in his land rover. We where only about 12 at the time and he seemed like a serious birder. If anyone has any info about this sighting or indeed Pete Matley, I would be glad to hear from you.
We only saw him once after that when he took us both on a day out round the Fylde coast. Unfortunately we were very late back and our worried parents were waiting at his house for us on the brink of calling the police!
We wer'nt allowed to go out with him again after that, which was a shame he was a really nice bloke.

Dean.
