After the shock of finding a new and heavily hardcored road across the bottom of my beloved peat pools after not visiting for 4 days due to work yesterday I'm afraid I perhaps rather prematurely called the it the end of them after finding not a single bird present. I shouldn't have worried though as an evening visit tonight found a cracking Greenshank present (which after flying around a bit actually flew onto a couple of tiny pools at the side of the road closest to me!) and plenty of the usual Little Ringeds, Lapwing, Redshank, afew Snipe, a Ringed Plover and a White Wagtail

The road, is however, a monstrosity and work there has dried out much of the closest pool and may infact still be in breach of the law, concerning the disturbance to the breeding Little Ringeds and investigations into this is currently underway. Could all birders visiting please not use the new road for viewing the pools, however tempting it may look as they would give very close views indeed, however that could easily disturb the breeding birds (although if they keep the sides of the road with the current 'embankments' we may be able to 'work something out' ) and passage waders usually just fly off if disturbed here. The heavy machinery due to utilise the road may not disturb the birds as much as we fear if other sites with similar 'problems' in the UK are anything to go by as birds quickly get used to them, but disturbance by humans they never get used to
