Would love to spend a couple of days at morcombe bay doing a bit of birding, does anyone know of any good places to stop and any tips to get the best out of my birding.
I know that it's subjective, but where IS in your opinions the best birding to be found in these isles of noises??????! Myself and my brother were chatting about it... They'll be the few obvious candidates, but or you where is it and why? You can even chuck a North West vote in.....

I was in my local Hoyles Park, Bury the other day with my dog and I saw a red bird which I can't identify. It was a bright rufus red with cream on its chest, underwing and under tail. I spied it on the ground and it was about as fat as a blackbird but longer. It flew up to a tree. The wings were slender and the tail l...
I don't mean actually dabbing one with paint. What I'm referring to is behaviour, mainly concerning Black Headed Gulls. Its behaviour that's fascinated me for a while, and was very apparent on my recent trip to Scotsmans Flash, it's akin to a practice in soccer. Black Headed Gulls will select either...

Hi I have half a day to waste in the Manchester area and am looking to get out and see some birds - the only additional issue being I'm a woman who is quite nervous and used to going with somebody else. If anyone has a spare, or indeed just one they are willing to part with, 2008 Greater Manchester Annual County Bird Report could they please let me know. Cheers.
A friend described a bird she had seen in her garden in Chorlton. She knows little about birds, but from the description and the victim (a pigeon), I assume it was a peregrine. Anyone else seen a peregrine in urban Chorlton cum Hardy? She said it had large talons and she was very pleased it was tucking int...

Interesting article on the BBC News today (Mum recorded it) and again on Northwest Tonight regarding the missing Whooper Swan cygnet. Seems they've found it. In Ireland! (Inch Wildfowl Reserve at Donegal) Good news! They glammed it up a bit saying it sparked an international search and later said i...
Not a birding day as such but given the fact it wasn't raining for once had a family trip to Mr Gormley's iron men at Crosby and then on to Hightown. It was extremely windy and the sea was very rough so didn't pick up much of interest at either place. However as the sun started to drop in the West big numbers, p...

We have recently taken in on commission sale a Swarovski ATX 85 Telescope which we are sure will be sold to the first person to look at it. This was an unwanted gift (don't know how that is, because I would worship anyone who gave me that as a present!!) and as a result is almost un-used. It is boxed and in min...
