Visit this morning.
An adult winter-plumaged Kittiwake was a surprising but very pleasant
find on Ogden Reservoir this morning. It showed well, when not being
pestered by Black-headed Gulls! This is my first record of this
species here and the first record at Piethorne since 10th April
1999...
Andy Makin had a Firecrest (probably female) in his garden at Long Lane, Hindley Green today. Maybe ex-Pickley Green? Andy's not online, but was going to ring Phil Rhodes to compare notes. It went towards Ruabon Crescent, so I have asked another birdwatcher living there to keep an eye open for it!.

1st winter female Scaup was the highlight. Other than that THE PLACE was dead! I have had a reliable report of 5 birds flying each morning 2nd-4th Sept before 0700hrs, from the island on Platt Fields Park Lake, towards the Wilmslow Rd end of Platt Fields Park (ie towards Birchfields Park) - so maybe they are roosting on the island?
my morning patch on the irwell has recently seen a boost in mute swan numbers 15 to 20 everyday now, some have the blue ring PBU and NDX as an example,is it possible to find out where the birds were ringed, and should i be reporting their location to someone
