RE: NEW MILLS

Red-crested Pochard male on the Goyt by Mousley Bottom, also 6 Goosander (3m & 3fe), c.30 Lesser Redpoll, Redwing and Fieldfare. Went looking for the reported Water Rail on the DOS reports, anybody on this forum have any further details on this, location etc?

the flooded fields on waterside (near strines) are attracting growing numbers of wildfowl.

there was also a flock of 33 lapwing this morning feeding in the boggy sedge grass area .

300+ canada geese are grazing the fields.

1 male teal was present with 100+ mallard.

other species also included pied wagtail (3) and a heron.

10 snipe in the boggy field bordering the golf course (near bridleway to hague bar), probably more, many partially hidden in sedge grass.

13 lapwing mixed in with the snipe.

30 starling feeding in neighbouring field.

Envious of the Merlin sighting!

1 Woodcock was present in the boggy fields bordering the golf course around 11am the same morning.
It flew off in the direction of Stonepiece farm.
