From waterside flash to Millenium walkway this afternoon. 45 Lapwings on field nr Waterside Flash along with around 13 Starlings and 30 Woodpigeons. At Flash,4+Common Snipe,20+Teal,2 Moorhen and in the field otherside of the river around 200 Canada Geese.Along the river towards Mousley Bottom reserve,5 Redhead Goosander swimming together, 3 Dippers ,a Grey Wagtail,10+Mallards and 2 Moorhens. And as I arrived back at Waterside Flash a Little Egret flew up from the flash and landed in a dead tree nearby as 2 Grey Herons flew overhead,a nice surprise as Little Egrets only been seen there around twice b4 at most as far as I am aware?
At Waterside Flash this afternoon 5 Common Snipe showing well at edge of flash in the sunshine,5 Lapwing,1 Mallard,17 Teal,1female Wigeon,1 Pied Wagtail and around 100 Canada Geese on the field otherside of the road.
An update on last nights sighting of the Sandpiper. There was a few of us and we did not get a very good view (it was dark and kept at the far side of the flash,it also did not fly or show its rump, and could not see its supercilium)so reckoned probably Common. However one of the group went back today and digiscoped what we presume was the same bird in bright light and it turns out to be a Wood Sandpiper! So sorry should not of been so quick to ID in such conditions! And great news for the Flash!
Waterside Flash 7.15pm last night (Tues 10th Sept) 1 Common Sandpiper edge of Flash along with at least 1 Common Snipe. On the Flash 19 Teal along with the usual Moorhens, Mallards. On adjacent field at least 37 Lapwings and the usual 200 plus Canada Geese on field near Paper Mill side of road. All the best and Good Birding .
Mark Dean I was out walking above New Mills today walking towards Mellor Cross when, at about 11.55am about 30 lapwings and 50 starlings went up, and in front of them a female or juvenile Marsh Harrier was flying with slow flapping flight, heading south east, I presume on migration very unexpected and a great sight to see .
Indulged in a bit of 'Swallow bathing' yesterday evening on Castle Edge road by New Mills golf club. Over 1000 in the air and on the grass , eventually roosting in the reeds around the large pond on the course itself. About 9.30pm.
Also Tawny Owl, 3 Lesser Redpoll 2 Kestrel Common Buzzard
Managed to have a brief visit to Waterside Flash just before it got dark, and, as well as the Wigeon and Mallard etc I saw on Sunday ,there was also 5 Teal .Also 200+ Canada Geese grazing on the grass on the other side of the road and I saw the Grey Heron fishing in the river. All the best and good birding!
One male Wigeon in eclipse with three female on waterside flash this afternoon as well as the usual hybrid Ducks and Mallards,Moorhens. All the best and good birding.
Two skeins of P.F Geese (200+) flew low over the flash in the direction of Whaley Bridge ...minutes later a large skein (presumably the same birds) flew down the valley in the opposite direction towards Marple, temporarily circling New Mills calling noisily to each other (maybe arguing over the map reading).
Elsewhere-
Low Leighton ....8 Bullfinches on the garden feeding station fighting over sunflower hearts (4m + 4f).
YELLOW-BROWED WARBLER at 9.20 this morning on footpath north of Hague Bar / Brookbottom Road west of golf course (my position on twitter of south is incorrect) bird showed for about 10 seconds and vanished into woods on left of track as you travel north and called briefly. 30 Lesser Redpoll at Broadhurst Edge and Stonechat. 5 Snipe on reedy pool by golf course.
At least 7 snipe on the scrape opposite New Mills Golf Club around 15.30 today. Also several ducks, possibly female & juvenile teal but couldn't really get a good view with the naked eye

I managed to get to waterside flash for a few minutes this afternoon and also saw the pair of Shovelers, thanks Ray. Also, as well as the usual Canada Geese,Moorhen,Mallards and a Grey Heron, at least 6 Mistle Thrush on the grass, and at least 3 Teal, I saw 2 male and 1 Female on the water. All the best and Good Birding for the rest of the year and 2016.Mark.
On Ollersett Moor there was a party of 10 RING OUZELS resting in a Beech tree copse, occasionally giving good views when dropping onto the copse floor to feed.
Also present were at least 10 Wheatear and several more near Chinley churn.
No sign of any Ouzels in the rocky boulders of around Chinley churn area.
There was migration evidence on Waterside this evening including some very good local records.
I called on way home from work and was greeted by 20-30 Swallows hunting over the river and adjoining fields.
On the muddy margins to the flash there was a feeding flock of Pied Wagtails (10-12) and a Common Sandpiper.
Further scanning of the mud revealed a Little Ringed Plover resting and feeding in the mud, before resuming it`s journey.
A female Sparrowhawk glided over and flushed the wagtails but they soon landed, where upon another local birder (Ray Scally) noticed a Yellow Wagtail had joined the flock.
Ray also confirmed the presence of at least one White Wagtail amongst the flock of Pied Wagtails .
Other species included - Goosander heading towards the goyt (male and female) , Willow warbler x2, Chiffchaff (1),Teal x2, House martin (1),Sand martin (1), Goldfinch (3).
A Grey Wagtail completed the set of wagtails just after I left.
