Strange visit by 30 Ring Necked Parakeets to Hulme Community Garden Centre.
Arriving at 8.20 am, I found 17 in one tree and 13 in another. Apart from changing places it remained so for 10 minutes until the 17 were spooked, flying south across the centre. They were joined by 6 from the other tree and flew off screeching loudly.
The remaining 7 stayed around for a further 5 minutes, finally flying across to a Rowan to watch a Wood Pigeon eating the berries. I didnt see them depart.

During the morning ones and twos over flew the centre from different directions.
Ive not witnessed these behaviours or numbers in the centre before!

Been hearing them very regularly around the  Manchester Old Road / Rhodes area of  Middleton over the last month.  Only 1's seen but there are more than 1 for sure.  

 

Also around the Clifton Road to Hilton Lane area of Prestwich on the 19th and 20th this week.  Calls were more heard more frequently here than in Middleton.

c.50 at Jackson's Boat pre-roost at 1615. c.120 at roost with c.150 jackdaws at roost at the bottom of Hardy Lane, Chorlton at 1635. A lot of milling about of birds so the counts are approximate.

Was sat on my bed, having just got in, when I heard the tell-tale calls and saw about 30 whizz by the bottom of the garden at eye-level. Looked quite impressive in the low sunshine.

Slightly late with these, but in the last month or so evidence to suggest their range is expanding Northwards. I've seen 3 in Middleton at Limefield Playing Fields and one flying over the Nuttall Lane area of Ramsbottom.

5 Parakeets seen in Kersal Dale today opposite the river Irwell in Salford. At dusk I saw 23 parakeets in trees opposite Salford uni on the bend of the River Irwell. Never seen so many here before.
