Earlier this week, Wednesday I think it was, I was watching the female Great crested Grebe on the nest rearranging it with more nesting material brought by what I thought was the male, but if you are saying John that the male abandoned her would another male take over? Personally I don't know of that behavior, but I am probably wrong.

I could be wrong ,but I have visited to see About 6times in the last 2 weeks and not seen the Male but if the Male is still about they coul lay again hopefully not where they are vulnerable out in the open like they have been this time. Maybe The male just felt guilty and come back occasionally to help,it will be the same Male you saw.

Some good birds at Pennington Flash today,
Arctic Tern - (3+1) came in from the East and left SW soon after ,I can't recall seeing these going through South before in June, but my memories not the best ,most likely that they are failed breeders possibly from the farnes after the stormy weather the other week.
Common Scoter - 1 Male
Common Tern- 4
Redshank-3
Oystercatcher-2

Mediterranean Gull- 1 Adult

Blackcap- 4 newly fledged young
Cetti's Warbler-2
Great Crested Grebe- The female sitting on eggs for 46 days  on the stock pond by the rucks has finally given up on the addled eggs ,her mate abondoned her 2 weeks ago ,she was asleep near the nest today

This afternoon at Pennington Flash at 2:15pm, a red kite was over the golf course and drifted over Horrock's hide for a minute. Trouble is I was on the south side of the flash which combined with the extremly dull and wet weather helps explain the very poor photos. It drifted away again over the golf course, but surely won't have gone far in this weather.

Also today, three Cetti's warblers including one seen well at Sorrowcow pond and a single common tern.
