Not here with birding in mind and do not have optics with us. This afternoon we were sitting in the Piazza Di San Lorenzo gorging on tiramasu flavoured ice creams when a fine male Italian Sparrow landed very close by, and it struck me that I had never before seen one. On the ebird system it is split as Passer Italiae.
A bit of a laugh really - a potential lifer in Europe is unexpected. It was keeping poor company with Feral Pigs, Common Swifts and rather better the local Blackcaps (with slight Italian accents).
Regards,
Mike & Barb P.
