Yes Colin, my understanding is that funding will be made available to manage the NNR. There will also be plenty of opportunities for volunteers to get involved in monitoring birds and other wildlife, as well as contributing in other ways to the management of the individual sites, depending on people's skills. The Flashes of Wigan and Leigh National Nature Reserve (NNR) was officially declared today by Natural England and becomes Greater Manchester's first NNR. This is great news for biodiversity in GM and for local people, especially those who have carried out surveys and submitted records which have identified the importance of this archipelago of sites for birds and other wildlife.
