RE: Mellor Moor (other wildlife)

Was relieved to see a Wall this afternoon. So some did make it through the first brood then (I only saw one during the whole of Spring). The 'dribble' of peacock (2) and small tortoiseshell (1) sightings continues. A pond next to Gibb Lane held 2 ovipositing brown hawkers, 3 emperors (1 fem ovipositing), the males clashing, with one 'seen-off', 2 common darters, and the 3 most common species of damselflies.

A lepidopteran bonanza this p.m. with some real prizes (if you like that sort of thing).  At least 6 green hairstreaks were on the heather/bilberry moorland near the cross, but more excitingly there were the first 2 painted ladies of the year, the first red admiral of the year (extremely scarce in the country so far) and the first Wall of the year. A pity the weather is now turning nasty. Also saw 5 species of moth including a ruby tiger, a common heath and a brown silver lines. Two species of micro included dozens of green longhorns. All of these, except the brown silver lines, were also on the 'natural' (i.e. non-farming) area near the cross.
